Intersections of disability and migration in and between Austria and Japan in the current era of instability and flight

Short Description of the Project

This project proposes explorative research activities in Japan and Austria to map the knowledge, practices, and policies of inclusive education. We intend to analyze the educational discourses (on an academic but also policy level) and find out the extent to which an intersectional approach is being followed in the process of tackling the education of people with disabilities. The multiple discrimination in society and the intersection of disability and various sources of diversity such as gender, migrant/refugee background, age, language competencies, and socioeconomic status are highly crucial topics in the educational context as they can aggravate the challenges of accessing education for people with disabilities. This project will initiate a new cooperation between the Center for Teacher Education of the University of Vienna and the Graduate School of Education of Kyoto University.
